Travis Announces Travis HITECH SecuritySM for HIPPA covered entities to comply with new HITECH law
Houston, Feb. 1, 2010--
As of February 22, 2010, all HIPAA covered entities must comply with HITECH's Breach Notification Provisions or risk significant sanctions. Are you prepared?
Travis HITECH SecuritySM Security ("THS") provides the tools that help administer the breach notification provisions of HITECH. Users that log-in to THS may utilize the "Risk Assessment Tool" to help determine whether a Security Incident/Breach occurred. Upon the occurrence of a Security Incident/Breach of unsecured PHI, THS walks the User through the completion of breach notification form provided by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services ("HHS"), which can either be recorded and saved for the annual HHS filing or immediately sent to HHS directly from THS. In addition, as the User walks through the HHS Form, THS automatically prepares the breach notification letters for each affected individual for mailing. As of February 22, 2010, all HIPAA covered entities such as health care providers, health plans, and health plan sponsors, must promptly notify affected individuals of a breach involving unsecured Protected Health information ("PHI"). Failure to do so can result in civil lawsuits filed by states' attorney general and/or fines up to $1.5 million dollars.
The Health Information Technology for Economic and Clinical Health Act, known as the "HITECH" Act, was part of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 ("ARRA") and made momentous changes to HIPAA. One of the key terms under HITECH requires covered entities, business associates, vendors of personal health records ("PHR") and related entities to notify an individual upon the unauthorized use or disclosure of unsecured protected health information ("PHI") and PHR identifiable health information that results in a breach of security. Don't be caught unprepared, let THS help with your breach notification.
